Obituary

Memorial services for Charlotte Anne Jarman, 85, of Peever, SD will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Scott Davis and Pastor Mike Owen officiating. Pianist will be Kim Lawrence with special music by Jessica Sauvage and Pastor Mike Owen. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Both services will be held at the Peever Community Center, Peever, SD. Honorary Urn Bearers will be Bill and Sandy Hubris, Alpha Behrns, Ellie Landmark, Pastor Mike and Sylvia Owen, Dick Berens, and Valerie Hill. Charlotte passed away at her home on November 17, 2018 surrounded by her family after a year-long battle with cancer. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte Anne Dirks was born October 12 th , 1933 in Bonham County, to Benjamin and Anna (Schmidt) Dirks. Charlotte attended school in Lake Township by Big Stone Lake and graduated from Peever High School in 1951. She married Allen Jarman on January 8, 1952 in Huron, SD. This union was blessed with nine children. They made their home and farmed in the rural Peever area after Allen returned from serving in Korea. Charlotte was a faithful wife and loving mother helping raise her large family. She demonstrated her Christian values in all that she did. Later she worked at Ike's Chicken Shack and at Peever School as a Teacher's Aide. In 1977, Al and Char purchased Char's Café in Peever, SD. For more than 33 years Char served the community with her home style cooking and her well attended pie days, earning her the title of, "South Dakota Pie Lady." She retired in 2010. For many years, Char was a member of the Peever Lutheran Church and was currently attending the Peever Bible Community Church. She also served on the Peever Community Club and Peever Cemetery Board for many years. Char and Al loved local history which led to her building and maintaining the Peever Historical website. She authored two historical fiction books, Maggie and Abigail's Heritage . Charlotte loved living here on the prairie and when asked, always said, "I would never want to live anywhere else." Char loved the local people and had many good friends. She enjoyed playing cards, attending jamborees and other community events. Whatever the event, Char was always happy to contribute some of her good home cooking.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her son Roger, grandson Allen, great-grandson Shawn, her brothers Fred, Herb and Marion Dirks, sisters Ruby Anderson and Bertha McClain.

She is survived by her loving husband Al of 66 years. Children Sherry (Jerry) Brooks of Milwaukee WI, Phillip and (Gayle) Jarman of Peever SD, Sheila (Peter) Faber of Snohomish WA, Mollie Cook of Le Mars IA, Jeff and (Rhonda) Jarman of Aberdeen SD, Brad and (Lisa) Jarman of Canton SD., Frank and (Michelle) Jarman of Hutchinson MN, Bill and (Jessie) Jarman of Dassel, MN, 32 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandkids.
