Obituary

Funeral Mass for Charles P. Curran, 68 of Claire City, SD will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Norman Volk celebrant. Organist will be Colette Hull and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be David Gravdal, Gary Gleason, Eli Nissen, Tim Gleason, Terry Rudolph, and Dale Medenwald. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Charles' Family and Friends. Interment will be St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD, with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with a 7:30 PM Prayer Service, and one hour prior to the Funeral at the Church on Monday. Charles Peter Curran was born on May 23, 1942 in Sisseton, SD to Patrick and Mabel (Smith) Curran. He grew up and attended school in Minnesota Township, Sisseton High School and graduated from New Effington High School. Following his education he farmed with his brothers, and milked cows. Charles was united in marriage to Caryn Gravdal on October 6, 1973 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD. They purchased their farm in Minnesota Township where they lived and farmed. Charles served in the Army National Guard that was attached to the Sisseton Unit from Oct. 3, 1964 to Oct. 2, 1970. Charles liked to weld and tinker with old tractors. They enjoyed their winters in Texas. He liked to play cards, and visit with friends, and enjoyed morning coffee on the deck with Caryn. Caryn passed away July 6, 2010. Charles was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Charles passed away suddenly on May 5, 2011 at his home.
Charles is survived by one son, Curtis (Joann) Curran of Sisseton, SD; one daughter, Carrie Curran of Mitchell, SD and special friend Mathew Lewis; four brothers, Keith and Sandee Curran of Sisseton, SD, James and Judy Curran of Mobridge, SD, Richard and Nancy Curran of Veblen, SD and William and Waneta Curran of Rapid City, SD; two sisters, Agnes (Dennis) Bosze of Crossville,Tennessee, and Mrs. Patricia Cimburek of Columbus, NE: three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Doris Johnson of Rush City, MN and Pam (Gary) Richardt of Sauk Rapids, MN and Mrs. Ruth Haaland of Veblen, SD.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin infant daughter and son, one brother Robert Curran, two brothers-in-laws, Charles Cimburek, and James Gravdal.
