Funeral Mass for Chantel L. Sebek, 80, of Claire City, SD will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Norman Volk, O.M.I. celebrant. Organist will be Colette Hull with song leader Sherman Hannasch. Pallbearers will be Tanner Stapleton, Andrew Sebek, Lee Sebek, Michael Sebek, Dana Stapleton, Hope Stapleton, Julie Stapleton, Bonnie Sebek, Denise Swenson, Roberta Helmbrecht and Timothy Hatle. Honorary Pallbearers are "all of Chantel's friends and students". There will be visitation on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 3 to 7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel. Chantel L. Houde was born on June 19, 1931 to Ernest and Clara (Anderson) Houde in Webster, SD. She graduated from Webster High School. She married Eugene Sebek October 30, 1954 in Webster, SD. In 1956 they purchased the Albert Ulstad Farm in rural Claire City, SD. She was a bookkeeper for the Claire City Coop for 15 years. In 1973 she received her Bachelor's of Science degree from Northern State College and taught in country schools in Day and Roberts Counties and taught 3rd grade in Sisseton, SD, and taught kindergarten in Claire City until the school closed, then she taught kindergarten in New Effington, SD, finishing her teaching career substitute teaching in the Sisseton School District. She faithfully visited her husband Eugene in the nursing home for the past 2 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, coffee and visiting with friends. Chantel was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church and Alter Society, Veblen, SD. She was a member of the Claire City homemakers, American Legion Auxiliary, the Play Ground Committee at Claire City and for many years she was very active in the senior meals program at Claire City. She appreciated everyone who gave her rides and helped her out. She passed away on January 13, 2012 at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
She is survived by her husband Eugene Sebek, Sisseton, SD, brother-in-law John Hatle, Webster, SD, brother-in-law Leo (Karen) Sebek, Claire City, SD, two nephews, Mike (Bonnie) Sebek, Claire City, SD and Timothy (Becky) Hatle of Princeton, MN; three nieces Julie (Dana) Stapleton, Sisseton, SD, Marcia Hayes, of California, and Roberta Helmbrecht of Benson, MN; and several great nieces and nephews.
