Funeral service for Catherine Frances Hawk, Dakota Cistinah Win, 52, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hammon Community Center, Hammon, OK with Pastor Mona Bear Shield and Spiritual Leaders Gary HolyBull and Thomas "Sonny" LaBlanc officiating. The Drum will be Red Storm, Cheyenne Singer's Harvey and Irene Miles and Red Moon singer's. Pallbearers will be Albert "Buddy" DeCoteau, Wakuta Westerman, Levi Keoke, Stacey Brant, Conrad Brown, Jacob Barse and "all of Catherine's nephews in Oklahoma". Honorary Pallbearers will be Phyllis Keoke, Tracy Sherrod, Mary Jo Keeble, Helena LaBatte, Melinda High Bear, JoAnn Hisgun, Angie Eagle, Cheryl Spider, Lola Spider, Catherine Thompson, Alvira Enoch, Hattie Thigh, Judy Locke, Kim Cloud, Darlene King, Crystal Renville, Darla King, Marsha Lafontaine, Baby Doll Renville, Paula Horne, Cynthia Starr, Wanda Johnson and "all other Friends and Relatives". Interment will be in the Bethel Mennonite Indian Cemetery, Hammon, OK. There will be an all night wake on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the SWO Community Center, Agency Village, SD with an all night wake on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Hammon Community Center, Hammon, OK. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Francis Hawk "Dakota Cistinah Win" was born in Clinton, OK to Freeman White Hawk Sr. and Irene SwiftBird. Catherine departed this world March 8, 2015 in Fargo, ND.
Catherine was an enrolled member of the Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe of Oklahoma. She was of Southern Cheyenne, Two Kettle Lakota and Hunk Pati Dakota, Catherine attended schools in several states, her most memorable time was when she attended, Concho Indian Boarding school, Concho, Oklahoma, Ft. Sill Indian School, Lawton, Oklahoma and Central High "Indian Center Inc.", Los Angeles, California. She obtained her G.E.D. from S.W.C.C. Catherine liked to travel and made many friends across Indian Country, some of them life long. She was known for her sense of humor and the ability to make others laugh. She like to cook, do some bead work and travel to Pow-Wow's. She was involved with the Buffalo Lake Sun Dance in the early days as a Cook's helper. She was especially proud of her Native heritage. She was a direct descendent of a long line of Cheyenne Chiefs and Headsmen, Namely the famed Southern Cheyenne Chief Whirlwind, Chief White Hawk, Chief John Otterby "Lean elk", her grandfather Chief Amos White Hawk, and Uncle Chief Leslie Hawk, and also a direct descendent of Chief Swift Bird of the Foot Soldier South of the Two Kettle Band of Lakota. She was also a Southern Cheyenne Sand Creek descendent.

Catherine is survived by her long time companion and friend Stacey Brant, although separated for some year's they were there for each other when times got hard, Stacey was there right up to the end. She is also survived by five children, Valerie Hawk (Jacob Barse Sr.) of Summit, SD, Keith Hawk Sr. of Sioux Falls, SD, Diana Pollock of Los Angeles, CA, Serena Brant of Sisseton, SD, Duta Brant of Valley City, ND. Nine grandchildren J.J. Barse, Vivica Barse, Isabella Barse, Arianna Barse, Keith Swiftbird Hawk Jr., Danica Hawk, Alvaya Brant, Jrue Brant and Kimimila Brant. Her mother Irene Nelson of Agency Village, SD; sisters and brothers, Sharon Nelson of Agency Village, SD, Bonita Tapia of Dallas, TX, Rose and (Levi Keoke) of Sisseton, SD, Connie and (Kenny) Brown of Sisseton, SD, Ann Hawk of Oklahoma City, OK, Teresa and (Travis) Marron of Bismarck, ND,and Freeman Hawk Jr. of Sisseton, SD and a host of relatives from the Cheyenne River, Crow Creek and Sisseton-Wahpeton Reservations and the Southern Cheyenne Tribe in Oklahoma. Also survived by her Maternal Aunts and Uncles, Barb and (Gib) Bordeaux of Ft. Worth, TX, Darryl Turgeon of Mesa, AZ, Larry Turgeon of Pittsburgh, KS; adopted mothers, Merla Big Medicine Lopez, Darlene Kitto; adopted brothers, Carlos Kitto and Sal Little; adopted sisters, Opal and (Romeo) Renville, Wilma Big Medicine, and Lindy Zotigh.
She was preceeded in death by her father's Freeman Hawk Sr. and Peter "Buddy" Nelson; one sister Rita Nelson; one niece Rachel Contreras; her paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents Amos and Anna Otterby Hawk, Antoine Swift Bird, Mercy Little Eagle, Dolar Turgeon and Christine Bretzke; her adopted brothers John Paul Little and Ernest Big Medicine; and adopted father John Lopez.
