Graveside Service for Catherine Ann Frenier, Wambdi Pte Win "Eagle Buffalo Woman", 75 of Fort Rice, ND will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 A.M at the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD with Pastor Larry Thiele officiating. Pallbearers will be Robbie Johnson, Jaylyn Bedonie, Dylan Shepherd, Draven Crawford, Elliott Crawford, Kieran Sweet, and Jareth White. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Catherine's Relatives and Friends. Interment will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD. There will be an all-night wake on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Catherine was born on October 20, 1942 in Lawrence Township, Roberts County, South Dakota to August and Nixola (Lawrence) Frenier. She attended school in Peever and graduated from Flandreau Indian School. Catherine was united in marriage to Robert White Sr. They made their home in Chicago, Los Angeles and South Dakota. She attended Sisseton Wahpeton Community College and received her AA Degree in Counseling and Chemical Dependency. She was the 1 st level 3 Native American Counselor in South Dakota. She worked at Our Home in Huron, South Dakota until her retirement in 1998. She then made her home with her children, and lived at Fort Rice the last two years. She loved watching the Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors. Her greatest joy was providing for her family. She enjoyed horseback riding in her youth. Catherine was a pipe carrier and practiced the Native American Traditions . She also ran Inipi for the youth and attended Sundance. She enjoyed watching the sun rise while drinking her morning coffee. Catherine passed away on May 11, 2018 at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck, ND.
Catherine is survived by her five children, Elrond and Amber Johnson of Fort Rice, ND, Roberta and Ken Doherty of Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia and Larry Bedonie of New Effington, SD, Roxi and Travis Simpson of Sisseton, SD, and Mckenzie Wilson of New Effington, SD; one brother, Peter Edward Frenier of Portland, Oregon; and one sister, Barbara "Pug" Hallet of Las Vegas, NV; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; and her significant other Steven Johnson of Fort Rice, ND.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Robert Glenn White Jr., four brothers, August C. Frenier, Maurice Frenier, Fredrick Frenier and Andre Frenier; two sisters, Doris Lampton and Yvonne Frenier; three granddaughters, Catherine Crawford, Tiana Bedonie, and Jessa Wilson; and one grandson Coleman White.
