Funeral Mass for Carolyn Frances Brown, 64, of Rapid City, SD formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Tony Dummer, OMI Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Marohl, song leader will be Sandi Jaspers and special music will be provided by Brianna Lauer. Pallbearers will be Scott George, Steve Steiner, Cory Steiner, Tim Leverson, Danny Shepherd, Anjelo Shepherd, and Nathan Selchert. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Carolyn's Family and Friends. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Carolyn passed away on May 13, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital due to complications from a stroke. Carolyn was born to her parents Francis and Lucille (Cooper) George on April 4, 1949, in Sisseton, SD. Carolyn grew up on the George family farm with her family in the Drywood Lake Township, where she attended school and then attained a GED. Carolyn was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Carolyn and David were married on November 30, 1968, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. They lived in St. Paul, MN, where David worked for 3M Company, and Carolyn worked at 1Hr Martinizing; in 1970, they moved to Sisseton, then in 1971 moved to Deer Lodge, MT, where they lived with David's brother, Ralph, and his familly for a short period of time. Once they returned to Sisseton, David worked at Estwick's Distributing, while Carolyn stayed home and took care of the kids. Carolyn was always a hard worker and took pride in her work. Throughout the years she worked at many places, starting at Landsberger's Creamery in the mid-1970's and later worked at Alco, West End Grille, Teals Super Valu, and Automated Maintenance Systems in Rapid City, along with helping David run a variety of family businesses. Carolyn loved family and spending time with her children, especially the time she spent with her nine grandchildren. She loved going for walks and being outdoors, her home was her pride and joy and she always made sure it was ready for company. Carolyn often talked of "the fun times growing up on the farm," which included riding horse with her sisters and helping out on the farm. The many people that have known her, will tell you that she was a very positive person, who was always smiling and happy to see you.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, David Brown Sr. of Rapid City, SD; her mother Lucille George of Sisseton, SD; four children, Melissa and husband, John Stillson of Rock Rapids, IA, David and wife, Gina Brown Jr. of Watertown, SD, Anthony Brown of St. Cloud, MN and Tonia Brown of Rapid City, SD; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Janice and husband, Francis Neilan of Sisseton, SD, Cindy and husband, Jerry Steiner of Sisseton, SD, Connie and husband, Gregg Christianson of Sisseton, SD; and one brother, Virgil and wife, Vickie George of Sisseton, SD.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Ronald and one sister, Linda.
