Memorial Service for Carol J. Determan, 95, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 1:30 P.M.  at Edgewood Assisted Living Center, 308 Hillview Road, Sisseton, SD with   Curtis White officiating and pianist will be June Evenson. Honorary Urn bearers will be Sherry and Rory Iverson.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Carol Jean Heitmann was born on July 19, 1927, at Lake City, SD the daughter of Carl and Rose (Gianella) Heitmann. She grew up on the family farm and went to Red Iron #1 grade school, one year of high school in Lake City and the rest at Sisseton High School.   On March 5, 1945 she married Eugene Determan at Sisseton, SD. They lived on a farm northwest of Sisseton for eight years where they farmed and milked cows.  They had three daughters and one son.  In 1952 they moved to California.  In 1975 they returned to South Dakota and resided in Red Iron Lake Township, northwest of Sisseton, SD. At one time he bought cows and had them for about 4 years.  He had 51, Carol asked him how come 51 head and he said, because that's what was in the bunch!  Carol said that's an uneven number – you can give me the one and you'll have an even 50.  So he said OK.  A few days later one cow laid down and somehow got on her back and died.  Gene came in and told Carol her cow died!   She said how do you know it was my cow?  He said – because mine are all walking around!  She told him she hated the cattle business – She had been in it only a week and lost her cow!  Eugene passed away on September 1, 2014. Carol moved to Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton where she lived the last seven years. Carol loved snowmobiling, fishing, dancing, playing cards, quilting and crafts of all kinds.  She loved BLING!!! She always looked sharp.  She dressed beautifully with lots of bling and jewelry. Carol passed away at Coteau Des Prairies Hospital, Sisseton, SD on her 95 ^th birthday, July 19, 2022.
Carol is survived by her daughter Linda (Mike) Stuber of Nevada and one son Leslie (Cheryl) Determan of California; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters Virginia and Judy; her sister Erla Ringer and brother Leland Heitmann.
