Memorial Service will be held on May 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pat Schubert officiating. Organist will be Michelle Greseth  and soloist will be Pat Schubert and Kimberly Iverson. Urn Bearer is Jodi Sargent. Honorary Urn Bearers are all of Carmyn's grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD with Pastor Justin Iverson officiating.  Lunch will follow at Sheryl Hanson home rural Sisseton.  Social distancing is required and mask are preferred.  Carmyn Susie (Currence) Halseide, 89, of Sisseton, SD passed away December 24, 2020 at Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD with her family by her side.

Carmyn was born July 27, 1931, in Sisseton, SD to Elmer and Maude (Goehring) Currence. She graduated from Peever High School, home of the Peever Panthers. She was united in marriage to Stanley Halseide, the love of her life, on April 21, 1950. They lived on the family farm in the Coteau Hills, near Lohre's Station, until 1970 when they moved to Sisseton. Stanley passed away in 1991 and Carmyn later married Karl Fleischhacker. He passed away in 2000. Carmyn attended Northern Normal after high school and got her teaching certificate and taught in Wilmot, SD for a short time. Carmyn was a wonderful cook and baker. She went in very early in the morning and baked special breads for Mobile Supper Club. She worked at Stavig Grocery in the produce department, NESDCAP as the receptionist and later on for the Senior Citizen Program. Carmyn worked for the Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher and for the Roberts County Highway Department for a number of years and retired from there at age 65.  After her marriage in 1950, Carmyn became a member of Bethel Lutheran church, located just down the road from Lohre's Station. After they moved to Sisseton, she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton for almost 50 years. Some of her hobbies included gardening, canning (probably more of a necessity than a hobby with seven children!), playing hymns on the piano and singing along. Carmyn loved reading and word find puzzles. She said she liked doing these to keep her mind sharp and apparently it worked, because she was pretty quick witted! We remember new, matching dresses for the girls at Easter and Christmas, and very in-style winter coats made from wide-wale corduroy. She loved to go dancing with Stanley on Saturday nights to old-time country music. In her later years, she listened to her CD collection of the oldies. Carmyn had a good sense of humor. She did puppet shows for the little ones with oven mitt puppets. When Brett was discovered under the table feeding butter to the dog Bugs, (and himself) a picture was taken before clean-up. Carmyn was remembered by her children for her famous 'cat face" and her imitation of Woody Woodpecker.

Carmyn is survived by her seven children, Linda (Rick) Sonstegard, Julie Streitz of Warner, SD, Gary (Julie) Halseide of Sisseton, SD, Sheryl Hanson of Sisseton, SD, Holly (Kevin) Iverson of Yankton SD, Becky (Bob) Temple of LaGrange, CA and Brett (Sarah) Halseide of Wilmot, SD.

Carmyn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Stanley Halseide and Karl Fleischhacker; one brother Kenneth Currence; one sister, Drusilla Smith; two sons-in-law Dana Streitz and Paul Hanson; and one grandson, John Hanson.
