Funeral Service for Cari Ann Bird, 23, of Browns Valley, MN will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Pastor Richard Felch, Pastor Milton Owen, Pastor Mike Owen and St. Mary's Lay Readers officiating. Pallbearers will be Cody Bird, James Bird Jr., Curtis Bird III, Michael LaFontaine Jr., Anthony Flute, Abel Flute, Logan Bird and Santana Peters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Samuel Bird, Witanin Bird, Canpa Aku Win Bird, Michaela LaFontaine, Samantha Bird, Ashton Flute, Alex Flute, Jacoby Renville, Naomi Burley, Alicia Gangone, Michael Wolcott, Anthony Wolcott, Keya Wolcott, The 2011 TZ Varsity Volleyball Team, Cari Ann's Co-workers at Dakota Magic and Dakota Magic Bowling Team. Wake services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Dakota Alliance Church, Sisseton, SD and Saturday, March 4, 2017 and Sunday, March 5, 2017 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center both nights. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arraingments.
Cari Ann Bird, age 23, of Browns Valley, Minnesota passed away March 1, 2017. She was born May 2, 1993 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the daughter of James and Kateri Bird. Cari Ann was employed at the Dakota Magic Casino since August of 2013 starting out as a Customer Services Technician in Marketing and working her way up to Promotions Coordinator.
Cari Ann grew up in Sisseton, South Dakota and attended Tiospa Zina tribal school graduating with honors in 2011. She attended Indians into Medicine (INMED) during the summers for 4 years where she made many friends. Cari Ann played volleyball while in high school and her love for volleyball and her athletic ability gained her the award of All Tourney at Lakota Nation Invitational (LNI). GO NUMBER 2!!! One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with her family and friends. Cari Ann had a big heart and was loved by all that knew her. She enjoyed traveling to different places with her friends. Her heart and home were always with her family. Cari Ann was sweet and had a smile that would light up a room. She touched many lives during her short time here with us and we are forever grateful that we had her for 23 years. Cari Ann was very close to her Grandpa Curtis and Grandma Beverly. It is a comfort to know she has been reunited with them in Heaven.
Cari Ann is survived by her father and mother, James and Kateri Bird of Sisseton, SD; brothers, Cody Bird of Sioux Falls, SD, James Bird Jr., Curtis Bird and Samuel Bird of Sisseton, SD; sisters, Witanin Win and Canpa Aku Win Bird of Sisseton, SD; grandparents, Peggy Peters and Mike Durkin of Peever, SD; great grandmother Teresa Peters of Sisseton, SD; aunts, Julie (Mike) LaFontaine of Sisseton, SD and Janine (Jerry) Renville of Peever, SD, Sierra (Chris) Wolcott of Sisseton, SD Annie Durkin of Peever, SD; uncle, Jason (Patricia) Bird of Alachua, FL.
Cari Ann was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Curtis and Beverly Bird; uncles: Curtis Bird Jr. and Leslie Bird. Loving and kind in all her ways; upright and just to the end of her days; sincere and true, in her heart and mind; beautiful memories, she left behind.
