Funeral Service for Brian Scott Renville Sr., 53, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Monday, June 8, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota with Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek and Rev. Fr. Charles Chan officiating. Pallbearers will be Donovan Pratt, Brian Renville Jr., Rick Renville, Darren Renville, Louie Renville and Daniel Maher. Honorary pallbearers will be All of his friends and relatives, Buffalo Lake Sundancers and his Joker Fans. Interment will be in the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota with military rites by the Woodrow Wilson Keeble American Legion Post No. 314. The Drum group will be Long Elk Singers. Visitation will be held at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. till time of Service. The covid-19 guidelines will be strictly followed . The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Brian Scott Renville of Sisseton, South Dakota, passed away on June 5, 2020 while in hospice at the Tekakwitha Living Center. He had been struggling with Stage 4 cancer for nearly four years, outliving his initial prognosis by several years. His oldest brother, Darren, was with him as he passed. A lifelong music fan, he was listening to a song by one of his favorite classic rock bands, Styx, when he made his journey to the spirit world.

Brian was born on October 17, 1966, in Daly City, California, to Delano (Dakota) and Carol Healy Renville (Assiniboine/Nakoda and Gros Ventre/Aaniiih). He graduated from San Lorenzo High School and later attended Sisseton Wahpeton College. He served in the United States Marines in the mid-80's, stationed mostly in Bermuda. He was married three times, to Lynn Halbert, Yolanda Starr, and Danielle Wilson. He moved from California in the late 80's to South Dakota, and settled on the Lake Traverse Reservation, where he was enrolled as a Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota. He was living in Sisseton at the time of his passing.

Throughout his life, Brian worked as a tribal policeman, an Emergency Medical Technician and EMT trainer, and for many years worked in surveillance at Dakota Sioux Casino, Dakota Magic Casino, and Dakota Connection.

The job he enjoyed the most was a volunteer position as a DJ at both tribal radio stations, KSWS and KXSW. Over the course of some twenty-five years, he played classic rock on the weekends for the Lake Traverse Reservation listening area. He had an avid fan base who enjoyed his infectiously enthusiastic approach to playing music, as well as his love for and deep knowledge of classic rock.

He loved going to movies and concerts, as well as spending time with family and friends. Spirituality was also an important part of his life. He maintained his early connections to the Catholic and Episcopal Churches, and his traditional Dakota spirituality was a central force in his life.

He is survived by his father, Delano, and mother, Carol, and three siblings, Darren, Ricky and Ivy. He is also survived by his wife, Danielle, and seven children: Brandilyn, Jacquelyn, Carolyn, Brian, Jr., Mari, Alicia and Kailer. He leaves behind grandchildren Tobia, Itanca, Wamdbi, Dayonna, Ian, Elliot, Kahlily, Jack, Kianna, and Alfreda. He had two more grandchildren on the way: Baby Spider and Baby Tateyuskanskan.
