Funeral Service for Brian Keith Owen, 47 of St. Cloud, MN formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Pastor Milton Owen and Jr. Heminger CLP officiating. Pianists will be Billy Kohl and Betty Neilan. Drum Group will be Wahpekute. Pallbearers will be William Owen, Dennis Owen Jr., Colin Owen, Joe Owen, Robert Owen, Richard Owen, Steven Owen, Rodney Owen, Garry Owen Jr. and Marshall DuMarce. Honorary Pallbearers will be "All of Brian's Friends & Relatives". Interment will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Peever, SD. Wake Service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Brian was born on October 28, 1968 in Fargo, ND to Verlyn "Pete" Owen and Corrine (Upshaw) Owen and is an enrolled member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe of the Lake Traverse Reservation. The family moved to St Cloud, MN in 1973 where Brian attended Madison and Westwood Elementary, North Junior High School and Apollo High School where he was active in band, track and football. After High School Brian had attended St Cloud State University and St Cloud Technical College where he was working on a degree in counseling but had yet to complete. Brian attended The Grove School of Music in Burbank CA. Brian was also a Certified Nursing Assistant. Brian was currently employed by Great Steps in Sartell, MN as an Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician.
Brian started dancing as a Fancy Dancer at the Little Shell pow-wow in New Town, ND at the age of 9 years old and continued dancing into his teen years. During his time dancing, Brian had been given 2 Indian names, Grey Horse and Wambdi Wicakiza "Fighting Eagle". Brian always had a passion for music. He played drums in several bands throughout his life. The most recent were for 2 separate churches in the surrounding St Cloud area. Brian passed away on May 28, 2016 at the family cabin in Browns Valley, MN.
Brian was never married but was blessed with a son, Jordan. Other children with whom was a large part of Brian's life included Kayla (Klimek) Vigen, Jesse (Hovey) Sucku, Zach Hovey-Cook, Taylor and Tiffany Emerson, Devon, Ahlias and Aubrienna Sundstrom and grandchildren Charlie Vigen, Norah Sucku and Harper Owen. Brian always made an effort to spend time with his 2 nephews, Preston (God Child) and Gavin Owen.
Brian is survived by his parents, Verlyn and Corrine (Upshaw) Owen, brother Daniel Owen and wife Julia (Orcutt) Owen, son, Jordan Owen and fiance Courtney Henkel.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pierce and Laura Owen, William Upshaw and Sarah Hopkins.
