Obituary

Funeral Service for Brenda Ann Blackthunder,  "Good Hearted Woman", 54, of  Uvalde, Texas formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Sunday. September 11, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Gerald Heminger Jr. CRE and Filmore Simon officiating. Drum Group will be the Cook Boys.  Pallbearers will be Brent Blackthunder, Kobe Blackthunder, Edwin DuMarce, Bryan DuMarce Jr., Edward Blackthunder and Erik Longoria.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Oyate & Friends. Interment will be in the Goodwill Presbyterian Cemetery, Agency Village, SD.  There will be an all night Wake Service on Saturday, September 10, 2022 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Brenda was born on February 7, 1968 at Sisseton, SD to Edward Blackthunder Sr. and Karen (DuMarce) Blackthunder.

She got her GED at Moorhead, MN.  She grew up in Sisseton, SD, lived in Crystal City, TX, West Fargo, ND, Moorhead, MN with her significant other and children, and Uvalde, TX in recent years with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.  She was a homemaker.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and listening to music.  Brenda passed away on August 27, 2022 at Metro Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, TX. surrounded by her family.

Brenda is survived by her significant other Rafael Leyva of Oakes, ND; her children Brent Blackthunder, Savoy Abraham, Rafael Leyva, Hiram Leyva, Karen and her husband Erik Longoria and Bryan Leyva; Grandchildren Reysueno Leyva, Jordyn Longoria, Kobe Blackthunder, Destanie Blackthunder, Savior Blackthunder, Brendan Blackthunder, Brent A. Blackthunder, KC Abraham, Lindsey Abraham, Estrella Leyva, and Bella Leyva.  Great Grandchild Kobe Blackthunder.   Siblings Bryan (Terri) DuMarce, Edward Blackthunder, and Robert Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Edward Blackthunder Sr. and Karen (DuMarce) Blackthunder; and a granddaughter LaVonne Leyva.
