Obituary

Funeral Mass for Bonnie Faye Thompson, Skuyawin "Sweet Woman" will be on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, South Dakota. Celebrant will be Fr. Ken Lulf. Final viewing will begin at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, South Dakota on Friday, December 6, 2024. There will be a Wake service on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall, Sisseton, South Dakota from 7:00-9:00 P.M. There will be an All-Night Wake service on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall, Sisseton, South Dakota starting at 7:00 P.M. Officiating will be Butch Felix. Casket Leaders will be Tristan Thompson, Torryn Thompson, and Laniah Wanna. Pall Bearers will be Tyler Thompson, Russell Thompson Jr., Taylan Thompson, Sidney Wanna, Todd St. John, Shelby Keeble, Dusty Kirk, James Adams, Benji Thompson, Clinton Small, and Franky Jackson. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Fredrick "Mertz" Small, Sharon Cloud, Katie McKay, Zelma Flute, Cookie Johnson, JC Crawford, Elaine Anderson, Donna James, Marva Redthunder, Sharen Hopkins, Donita Goodsell, Russell Hawkins, Gordon and Kathy Despiegler, Clayton and June Adams, Valerie Renville, Joan White, Sue Goodstar, Ron and Tammy DuMarce, Louie Stevens, Hammy (Thomas) Marks, Sue Thompson, Jake and Myrna Thompson, Jennifer Adams, Karen Goodhart, Joyce Pickthorn, Mike & Donna  Myrum, Patsy Hart, Christine White, Shannon White-LaFromboise, SWO CHR Program, SWO Elderly Dept., and all Friends and Family.      Interment will be at the Lake Traverse Presbyterian Cemetery, Si  sseton, South Dakota. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Our beloved Mother, Grandma, Sister, Auntie, Cousin, and Friend Bonnie Faye Thompson gained her wings on November 28, 2024, to be with her many beloved relatives that went before her. Bonnie was born January 1, 1947, to Winfield Thompson Sr. and Virginia Redday. She was raised by her maternal grandparents in rural Browns Valley, MN. Bonnie attended a 1 room schoolhouse Easter #1 Day School and in 1959 Bonnie transferred to Wahpeton boarding school, Wahpeton, ND, until she graduated from 8th grade. During summer vacation, she stayed at the Thompson's family home, which everyone knows as "Down Home", that fall she went onto Flandreau Boarding school, Flandreau, SD, until she graduated in 1965. In 1966, Bonnie went on relocation to Pasadena, CA to receive her Nursing Aide Certificate. In 1967, Bonnie went to babysit for Sylvester and Myrna DuMarce in Wahpeton, ND. In 1968, she babysat for Patsy Hart in Bismark, ND. The fall of 1968, Bonnie moved to Denver, CO to find employment. She then moved home where she was offered a job at Ottertail in Minnesota. She decided to move to Pierre, SD to work at United Tribes. She then was asked by Ed Red Owl to move home to apply for the tribal finance at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe. After working for the finance department, she went to work for the CHR program as the CHR assistant; after years at the CHR Bonnie took a job to help the elderly of the S.W.S.T. where she was employed until her passing on November 28, 2024. Bonnie loved spending time with her 3 sons and her 4 grandchildren. She loved her family and made it to all the family gatherings and loved to make memories. Bonnie also loved spending time with her friends. Bonnie also loved her 2 dogs Rocco and Roxy. They were very protective of her. She loved to spend time tending to her flower garden and decorating her home and other places. She would go to the tribal casinos and take her grandchildren to carnivals, fairs, and the circus. Bonnie was very supportive of her children and grandchildren's activities.  They were her world along with her pride and joy only great grandson Torryn, he could never do any wrong in her eyes. Along with raising her 3 boys she all so raised her first-born grandchild Tristan from the age of 7 years old until he became an adult.  Bonnie was so proud of her family she would do what she had to, to make them happy.  Bonnie did so much for her SWO Elderly, which she was the program manager up to her passing. Bonnie had so many family and friends that she loved to be with or around them all. There is so much more to mention regarding community activities and special memories of her family. Bonnie was the Thompson family matriarch, and she was the right person to hold this title until her last breath! Bonnie will continue in spirit to comfort her children, grandchildren, great grandson, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, and the rest of the family that had the greatest experience of knowing Bonnnie, "Fly high our angel."

Bonnie  is survived by her 3 sons, Loren Thompson, Monte (Jody)  Thompson, Russell Thompson of Browns Valley, MN; 7  grandchildren Tristan Thompson of Browns Valley, MN, Tyler Thompson of Wahpeton, ND, Russell Thompson Jr. of Agency Village, SD,, Taylan Thompson of Browns Valley, MN Sidney Wanna of Sisseton SD, Nikki and Geralyn Crawford of Agency Village, SD, ; great-grandchildren Torryn Thompson of Breckenridge, MN, Tanaeya,  Tavaeya ,and  Laniah of Sisseton. SD; four sisters Linda Thompson, Wanda Thompson, Monica Thompson, Teresa Thompson, two brothers Benjamin "Benji" Thompson, and Winfield Thompson Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bonnie loved all her nieces and nephews. They all had a special place in her heart; God-children Donnette Thompson, Gabe DuMarce, Shanda Hart, Sylvia Small, and Ryan Adams; one pets Roxy and Rocko; and All of her numerous friends, family, and co-workers.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents Winfield Thompson and Virginia Marie (Redday) Thompson; maternal grandparents Stella and Enoch Redday; paternal grandparents Jenny and Jacob Thompson; special friends Cyrus White and Richard "Dick" Bad Moccasin; sister-in-law Toni Goodbird; nephews Corey Keeble and Louis "Mikey" Stevens; one great-nephew and numerous aunts and uncles.
