Bonnie Jean Erdahl, age 93, of Sisseton, SD, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Browns Valley Health Center surrounded by the love of her family. A Celebration of Life for Bonnie will be held at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, with Pat Schubert, officiating. Organist will be Estelle Pearson and Ollie Yost. Pallbearers will be Kyle Iverson, Kent Erdahl, Cory Schumacher, Matthew Kern, Terry Deutsch, and Patrick Block. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alicia Schumacher, Katie Kern, Ranelle Block, Erin Erdahl, Rebecca Iverson, and Great Grandchildren: Evelyn, Charlie, August, Oscar, Elin, Hugo, Milo, Rosie, and Elias and Jenny and Neal Nelson. Bonnie will be laid to rest next to her loving husband at the Sisseton Cemetery, South Dakota. There will be visitation on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 12-2:00 P.M at the Grace Lutheran Church before the service. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Bonnie was born on July 16, 1927 in Graceville, MN, to Frank and Helen (Berg) Kouba of White Rock, SD. In 1933 Frank, Helen and Bonnie moved to Sisseton where Bonnie started in the first grade. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1945. She met her future husband Kenneth Erdahl on a moonlight skate in Browns Valley, MN and they were married shortly after Ken's return from his service in WWII, uniting in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sisseton on September 18, 1948. Ken and Bonnie lived in Alcester, SD until late 1950 when they moved to Sisseton. Bonnie and Ken enjoyed many years living in Mesa, AZ in the winters and enjoying their summers at Clear Lake near Lake City, SD. In October 2016, they moved into Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton. Bonnie moved to the Browns Valley Health Center in October 2020 where she resided until the time of her death. Bonnie attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN for one year prior to attending Dakota Business College graduating in 1947 with a degree in bookkeeping. Returning to Sisseton after graduation, she worked at Torvik Implement until her marriage to Ken. In the mid 1950's she worked for a few years for the Selective Service office at the Roberts County Courthouse. Bonnie's greatest joy was as a homemaker and caring for Ken and their two sons, Larry and Jon. She was active at Trinity Lutheran Church and later at Grace Lutheran Church after the merger of Trinity and Goodwill Lutheran churches. Bonnie was a teacher in the Bethel Bible Series and active in the church women. She faithfully attended the general meetings and circle gatherings of the Grace Lutheran Church Women. She possessed a beautiful soprano voice that she willingly shared with the church and community, singing for countless weddings, funerals and social events. Bonnie also directed choirs at Trinity Lutheran and Grace Lutheran in Sisseton, St. Peter Lutheran in Mesa, AZ and the community choir at Fountain of the Sun Community in Mesa. Singing and music were her two God given passions . Bonnie and Ken enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to take many trips, visiting 48 states by camper around the United States as well as visiting all the providences of Canada and the countries of Norway, England, Ireland, and Germany. They enjoyed cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and the coast of California and the Baja, Mexico area. But in the summer months her favorite memories were the grandkids' visits to the Clear Lake Cabin. She loved watching them swim, play, and light fireworks together well into the night and felt an enormous sense of pride in anything her grandchildren accomplished. She and Ken enjoyed traveling to Minnesota and New Hampshire to watch their grandchildren doing the things they loved: football games, swim meets, ballet recitals, volleyball games, choir and band concerts were just a few of the things she enjoyed. She was a warm, loving, jovial grandma who never hesitated to give a big grandma hug even to people who weren't her Grandchildren. Bonnie loved and was extremely proud of her sons, their wives, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bonnie will always be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gracious concern and compassion for others, ability to listen and her generous heart. Her quick wit, sense of humor, storytelling ability, interest in the present and knowledge of the past made her a delightful conversationalist. Bonnie had the uncanny ability to make a child, or anyone, feel like they were the most important person in the room. She valued each and every relationship.

Bonnie is survived by her sons and their wives: Larry and Elaine Erdahl, Fertile, MN; Jon and Tracy Erdahl, Loudon, NH; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Alicia (Cory) Schumacher, August and Hugo of Edina, MN; Katie (Matthew) Kern, Charlie and Elin of West Fargo, ND; Kent (Erin) Erdahl, and Elias of Minneapolis, MN; Ranelle (Patrick) Block, Evelyn, Oscar, Milo and Rosie of Hawley, MN; Rebecca (Kyle) Iverson of Fargo, ND; sisters-in-law Arline Judish, Sacramento, CA; Marlys Erdahl, Sioux Falls, SD; and Elvonne Erdahl of Fargo, ND and numerous nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 69 years, Ken; her parents, Frank and Helen, and brothers-in-law Floyd Judish, Wesley Erdahl, Neil Erdahl, and nephew Dana Judish.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Edgewood Assisted Living in Sisseton and Browns Valley Health Center in Browns Valley, MN, who lovingly cared for her as if she was their mom.
