Funeral Mass for Blanche Frances Tyler, 92, of Veblen, SD will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church, Veblen, SD with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Hitpas Celebrant. Concelebrant is Rev. Fr. Shaun Haggerty. Music will be provided by the grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Daniel Tyler, Timothy Tyler, David Tyler, Kenneth Tyler, Gary Ohlsen, and Arlan Middleton. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, SD. Visitation will be held at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Scripture Service at 6:30 PM.
Blanche Frances Vrchota was born on February 15, 1920 rural Veblen, SD to Joseph and Anna (Zahradnik) Vrchota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church, Veblen, SD. She attended grade school at Stanley Grade School, Hillhead, and high school at Lake City, SD. She attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD. She taught country school in the Veblen and Hillhead area. Blanche was united in marriage to Adolph Tyler on June 12, 1945 at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church. They farmed in the Hillhead area for twenty years, where they raised their nine children. In 1978 they moved into Veblen. She was employed by the Community Action Program in Sisseton where she worked with the VISA Volunteer Program and she also worked at Dacotah in Veblen. Blanche had a deep Catholic faith. She was active in her parish life at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church; Blanche enjoyed spending time with all generations of her family, documenting the family's life with many photographs. She had an avid interest in recording family and community history. She also spent much time writing letters, gardening and reading. Adolph passed away on October 3, 1998. Blanche passed away on January 7, 2013.
Blanche is survived by nine children, Diane Mulheron of Barron, WI, Dixie Tyler of Sacramento, CA, Daniel (Carol) Tyler of Big Stone City, SD, Alice (Gary) Ohlsen, of Braham, MN, Timothy (Kathy) Tyler of Big Stone City, SD, Debra (Arlan) Middleton of Otsego, MN, David (Karin) Tyler of Lead, SD, Kenneth (Wanda) Tyler of Palmer, AK and Rita Smykowski of Lincoln, NE; three brothers, John (Evelyn) Vrchota of Sisseton, SD, Ed Vrchota of Veblen, SD, and Adolph (Liz) Vrchota of Bloomington, MN; five sisters, Helen Funston of Sequim, WA, Margaret Drahota of Jackson, MN, Rose Mulick of Portland, OR, Alice LaMothe of Richfield, MN and Teresa Genovese of Simi Valley, CA; thirty grandchildren; sixty-one great-grandchildren.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Joseph and Valerian Vrchota; four sisters, Anna Calta, Marie Drahota, Bessie Haggerty and Josie Haggerty; one son-in-law James Mulheron; one grandson Matthew Tyler.
