Beverly Ann Bird
June 5, 1946 – May 6, 2014

Beverly Ann Owen Bird was born on June 5th, 1946 to Remus and Caroline (Good Voice) Owen. She passed away on May 6, 2014 in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School, Flandreau, SD in 1964. She moved to Chicago, IL after graduation to attend cosmetology school. She was united in marriage to Curtis Bird. She worked as a cook at Big Coulee Head Start. She was a child care worker at the Juvenile Intervention Center. Her hobbies were reading, cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and reading her Bible. She especially enjoyed her visits with her granddaughters. She was an inspiration to her family having had rheumatoid arthritis for many years and coping with it in a positive manner. She taught her family that despite life's many hardships to never lose faith and to pray to God for strength and guidance.
Services will be held on May 8th and May 9th, 2014 beginning at 7:00PM and the funeral service will be on May 10th, 2014 at 2:00PM at the Dakota Alliance Church, Sisseton, SD. Pastor Richard Felch and Pastor Milton Owen will be officiating. Interment will be at the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD. Pallbearers will be James Bird Sr., Jason Bird, Cody Bird, Anthony Flute, James Bird Jr., and Michael LaFontaine Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elena Ruth Bird, Delilah Owen, Della Shepherd, Sharon Felch, Diane Flannery, Devola Bird, Doris Leith, Yvonne Willey, Roberta Trevino, Joan Spider and Barbara Owen.
Beverly is survived by her four children, James (Kateri) Bird of Sisseton, Julie (Mike) LaFontaine of Sisseton, Jason (Patricia) Bird of Alachua, FL, Janine Bird of Peever, SD and one adopted daughter Diane (Scott) Shaver of Hilo, HI. Her grandchildren Michaela LaFontaine, Cody Bird, Cari Ann Bird, Anthony Flute, James Bird Jr., Michael LaFontaine Jr., Abel Flute, Curtis Bird III, Logan Bird, Ashton Flute, Samantha Bird, Samuel Bird, Alexander Flute, Witain Win Bird, Christopher Waterman, Zachary Shaver, Nolan Shaver and a great-grandson Mason Bird. Brothers Mike Owen of Peever, SD, Wilbur "Joe" Owen of Browns Valley, MN; sisters Elena Ruth Bird, of Sisseton, SD, Delilah Owen of Lisbon, ND.
Preceded in death by her parents Remus and Caroline Owen, husband Curtis Bird, one brother Edward Jake Owen, two sons Leslie Owen and Curtis Bird Jr.
