Betty Lou Greybuffalo-Engverson was born on July 1, 1939 in Sisseton SD. Betty was
eagerly welcomed to the world by her parents, Father John Greybuffalo and mother Goldie Varns along with her older sister Lorraine and brothers Henry, Duane, and Elwood. Betty attended school in Sisseton, SD until the 8th grade and then moved to Watertown and later to Sioux Falls, SD. Betty attended church frequently and later on was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. SD. Betty enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows and always had fun going thrift shopping. She would play her favorite records which included Elvis Presley, Freddy Fender, and Wayland Jennings and have her daily coffee. Betty also loved to listen to her fair share of gospel music which came from her devotion to the church. Betty worked in nursing homes around Sioux Falls and eventually ended her career at the Good Samaritan Society after 15 years before moving back to Sisseton. She married Kenneth Engverson in the 1950s and to this union 2 daughters, Darla and Mary, and 2 sons, Russell, and Kelvin were born. One of her favorite things was attending Pow-wow gatherings along with their music. When Betty moved back to Sisseton she would spend most of her time with her dearest companion Sonny Dumarce. Together they adored listening to Hank Williams Sr. and spending their time in the garden that they shared. Betty spent her final days at The Meadows in Wadena MN where she was happy to hear country music and connecting with her family. Betty passed away at The Meadows of Wadena on October 8, 2020. Thank you to everyone for the support and love of Betty and who contributed pictures, words, and wisdom. We love you more than you even know and goodbye until we meet again. Written by Mary Kirkeby (daughter), Brandon Kirkeby (grandson), and Taylor Kirkeby (granddaughter). "What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset." -Chief Crowfoot
