Funeral Mass for Bernice Johnson, 87, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at St Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Kenneth Lulf Celebrant. The pianist will be Billy Kohl. Pallbearers will be Julian Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Dallas Goodteacher, Caleb Heminger, and Andre Heminger. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rosie Seaboy, Sharon White, Dawn Godfrey, Randy Godfrey, Brayden Demarrias, Brylee Demarrias, Tekakwitha Living Center Staff, Bernice's family and friends. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton. SD. There will be an all-night Wake Service on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 7:00 P.M. at. St. Kateri Hall, Sisseton, SD The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of Funeral arrangements.

Bernice was born on February 2, 1937, in Sisseton, South Dakota to John and Mabel (Isaac) Johnson Jr. She attended the Wahpeton Indian School through the 6th grade. She lived her life in the Sica Hollow, Old Agency and Sisseton, South Dakota area. She spent most of her life as a caregiver and many years taking care of Pete Demarrias. She was a member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church. She enjoyed Pow-Wows and driving around. Bernice passed away on December 29, 2024, at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, South Dakota.

Bernice is survived by her cousins, Sharon Johnson White of Sisseton, SD and DeVonna Goodteacher of Sisseton, South Dakota; Nieces Lydia Mullins of Georgia, Lynn Johnson of Iowa, Joy Lohre of Sisseton, SD and many other nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her three children, Beth Louis, Jerome Dean Johnson and James Dean Lane; her brothers Michael Johnson and Sylvester Johnson; sisters Dorothy Johnson, Martha Johnson, Virginia Mullins and Ruth Johnson.
