Funeral Mass for Benedict Kurkowski will be held on Friday October 30, 2015 at 10:30 A.M at St. Peters Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Jerry Ranek officiating with Organist Cindy Marohl and Song Leader Sandy Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Gary Ellis, David Maag, Bernie Lesnar, Tony Lesnar, John Goreth and Randy Kurkowski. Visitation will be Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. Sisseton, SD. Interment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Benny was born to John and Lucille (Lesnar) Kurkowski on February 24, 1929. Having been born in Grenville, Benny spent all his life in the area with his last 73 years on the present homestead. His goal had been to be there 75 years but that was not in God's will. Benny loved being a farmer, the land and his cows. They had been hard to sell and he missed taking care of them. Selling his beloved land while he was alive was just to hard for him to think about. His love of the land had him being very particular about how crops were planted, hay was cut and the fields plowed. Benny enjoyed auctions and sale barns; there might be another piece of equipment or cow to bring home. Benny's keen mind made him the go to person by many people. If you needed to know past or present happenings or info about people around Grenville he could give you dates and names. He will be remembered for his knowledge and special humor and laugh.
Left to cherish his memory are nieces Carol and Gary Ellis of Geneseo, IL, June and Jim Liniewski of Carpentersville, IL and Luci and John Goreth of Byron, IL; godchild Nancy Vouk and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy and brothers Stanley and William.
