Obituary

Funeral Service for Barbara Jean Fryer, 75, of Sisseton, SD will be on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Emanual Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Thomas Mueller officiating and organist will be Ollie Yost with soloist Pat Schubert. Pall Bearers will be Julian Block, Harold Fryer, Jared Richards, Jon Fryer, Christopher Hosmer and Bill Boardman.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be "All of Barb's Friends and Family". Visitation will be Friday, December 1, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. Interment will be at the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Barb was born on September 28, 1948, to Chester and Edith (Christenson) Boardman in Spencer, Iowa. They moved to Hillhead, South Dakota. Barb was baptized in Veblen, SD. They moved to Sisseton, SD where she started school in the third grade through high school. She worked with children until 1967. On March 25, 1967 she was united in marriage to Darold Fryer. They moved into the house they purchased in 1967 and lived there until 2020. They then moved into the High-Rise apartments in Sisseton and in 2023 they moved to the St. Gerards Community of Care in Hankinson, ND.

Barbara had day care for children for many many years. She and Darold had three children; Wendy who passed away from an auto accident in 1993. Wendy had a daughter Alissa who Barb and Darold took her in as their own and raised her. Preston of Watertown and Jeffery of rural Lidgerwood. Barb was confirmed at Emanual Lutheran Church in Sisseton. Barb and Darold were members of Emanuel Lutheran Church from marriage to present.

Barb enjoyed all children, her family, and friends, playing cards and parties.  Barb and Darold were connected many years with racing and loved camping. She enjoyed making people happy and being a quality listener. She had deep faith.

She is survived by her husband Darold; sons Preston (Stephanie) and Jeffery (Brittany) and granddaughter Alissa (Kevin); 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and one brother Bob (Marilyn) Boardman.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Wendy Fryer; parents Chester and Edith; sister Shirley and Donna Lewandowski; brother Archie and Gordon Boardman; numerous aunts and uncles.
