Obituary

Funeral Service for Audrey L. Elrite, 90, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Peever Lutheran Church with Rev. Sheila Pohl Officiating. Organist will be Kim Lawrence and soloist will be Janeen Kohl. Pallbearers will be Audrey's Grandsons, Raymond Frounfelter, John Holtz, Mike Halverson, Jess McGee, Drew Martig, Tony Serr, Mark Kummer, Jim Smith, Wade Rowland, Pat Stickland, Jim Stickland, and Derrick Redday. There will be visitation on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the funeral at the Church on Saturday.
Audrey Lucille Behrns was born on February 3, 1923 near Peever, South Dakota to Melvin and Mabel (Heagy) Behrns. Audrey was united in marriage to George Elrite on December 31, 1945 in Webster, SD. Audrey's teaching career began when she received her teaching certificate after one year of college. She later upgraded her certificate by going to summer session and doing independent study, and then later she received her B.S. degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1968. She taught twenty-one years in Beardsley, MN and sixteen years in various schools in Roberts County, SD, she also worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Sisseton, SD for four years in the education department. Audrey loved to travel, do embroidered quilts and word puzzles. Audrey was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as the 7th district President in Minnesota from 1982 to 1983. George passed away on June 23, 1973. Audrey passed away at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD on July 28, 2013.
Audrey is survived by one son, Keith and wife, Sandra Elrite of Beardsley, MN; two daughters, Marlys and husband, Art Frounfelter of Ortonville, MN and Marsha and husband, Dean Stickland of Beardsley, MN; nine grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; two step grand children; seven step great grandchildren; and four step great-great grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, DeLayne; one brother, Lynn; three grandchildren, Nichole Elrite, Pamela Elrite, and Misty Kummer.
