Funeral service for Ashley Marie DuMarce , 26, and AjaRose Anysia Lawrence, 4, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Lake Traverse District Center, Browns Valley, SD. Rev. Vern Donnell will be officiating. Drum group will be Dakota Nation. Ashley's Pallbearers will be Woodrow Hawkins, Rob Irizarry, Gabe DuMarce, Brett Price, Samuel Ehora, Chris Wilson and Glendon Wilson. AjaRose's Pallbearers will be Dustin Lawrence, Austin Lawrence, Michael Lawrence, Landon Lawrence and Luke Lawrence. Ashley's Honorary Pallbearers will be Sarah LaBatte, Rochelle Crawford, Alexis Wilson, Teri Wilson, Summer DuMarce, Chloe DuMarce, Carina DuMarce, Amber Cadotte and Whitney DuMarce. AjaRose's Honorary Pallbearers will be Jo and Evan LaBatte, Roman Crawford, Moochie her cat, AjaRose's brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles. All-night Wake Service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Lake Traverse District Center, Browns Valley, SD. Interment will be at Lake Traverse Presbyterian Cemetery, Browns Valley, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Ashley was born on August 3, 1990 to Kenneth Ervin DuMarce and Rose (Ortley) Mikulak in Sisseton, SD. Ashley excelled as a student at the grade school, middle school, and high school level. She continued her academic success as a student at the Sisseton Wahpeton College. While a student at Sisseton High School she was selected numerous times for the Honor Roll. Ashley was an Honors Senior when she graduated in 2008. While in high school, she was active in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She was also active with a Sisseton High School Leadership team. Ashley was selected to attend a journalism workshop at the Crazy Horse Memorial outside of Rapid City, SD. She was active with the Sioux Voice club, and was on the Yearbook staff. After Graduation she went to Homer, Alaska for two years and lived and worked with Diane and Roy Bartz. They were good mentors for Ashley. Later when Ashley enrolled at the Sisseton Wahpeton College, she continued her academic success as a student. She excelled in math classes. She became a tutor in accounting, algebra and computer courses. Ashley majored in Business Administration. She earned a spot on the Dean's List in 2012 and 2013.

In 2014, Ashley was selected as the Sisseton Wahpeton College's Student of the Year and was recognized for this honor at the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) spring student conference at Billings, MT. Ashley graduated from the Sisseton Wahpeton College in 2015 with an AA degree in Business Administration. Her goal was to work toward a four-year degree in accounting.

AjaRose was born on November 1, 2012 to Ashley DuMarce and Jarrod Lawrence. AjaRose enjoyed playing with her friends and loved cats especially her cat Moochie. When Ashley became a mother, she always put the welfare of her three children first and foremost. Ashley was starting to connect to and learn more about Dakota cultural traditions. She exhibited the Dakota woman's tradition of striving to be a caregiver to her children and to others. She did not hesitate to sacrifice herself to protect her children. Ashley was a good student and a good mother. Ashley and AjaRose passed away on May 21, 2017 in Sisseton, SD due to injuries from an early morning house fire.

Ashley is survived by her parents Rose Mikulak of Minneapolis, MN and Kenneth Ervin DuMarce of Browns Valley, SD; her children Phoenix James and Kaijasage Wi Wicanpi of Sisseton, SD; brother Cody K. DuMarce of Sisseton, SD; sisters Chelsea DuMarce of Sisseton, SD and Miranda R. DuMarce of Fargo, ND; nieces and nephews Camille, Madeline, Cassiopeia and Anakin; uncles Ron DuMarce Family, Harvey DuMarce Family and Dennis DuMarce Family; aunts and uncles Mary Ortley, Jordan Ortley, Scott Ortley, Adam Ortley, Jeff Ortley, Janet Ortley; cousins Misty Fryer, Summer Artega, Kelly DeMarrias and Veronica DuMarce.

AjaRose is survived by her father Jarrod Lawrence; grandparents Rose Mikulak, Kenneth Ervin DuMarce, Lisa and Mitchell Lawrence; paternal great grandparents Joyce Ojeda and Gary Cleveland; aunts Chelsea DuMarce and Miranda DuMarce; uncles Cody DuMarce, Landon Lawrence, Luke Lawrence, Austin Lawrence and Dustin Lawrence; siblings Phoenix DuMarce, KaijaSage Irizarry, Michael Lawrence, Fighter Lawrence, Sadie Lawrence and Jameson Lawrence; cousins Camille, Madeline, Cassiopeia, Anakin, Keely, Jeremiah, Ayden, Brayden, Alivia and Kasen and her cat Moochie.

Ashley is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Harry and Lillian DuMarce; maternal grandparents LaVonne Ortley and John Renville and her baby twins and daughter AjaRose.

AjaRose is preceded in death by her great paternal grandparents Harry and Lillian DuMarce and Levi Lawrence and Lorreta Beaudreau; great maternal grandparents LaVonne Ortley and John Renville; cousin Leyson Lawrence, twin baby siblings and mother Ashley DuMarce.
