Obituary

Funeral Service for Arnold Joe Deutsch, 87, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and soloist will be Pat Schubert. Pallbearers will be Cory Deutsch, Shane Deutsch, Jamie Deutsch, Gene Moe, John Griesenbrock, Ben Thornton, and Joe Swanson. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Arnie's Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandsons. Interment will be in the Sisseton City Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military rites will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the Fort Sisseton V.F.W. post # 3342. There will be visitation on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. Arnold Joe Deutsch was born on March 21, 1926 in Eden, SD to George and Anna (Neuberger) Deutsch. Arnie attended country school near Lake City, SD. After his education Arnie worked for various farmers before entering the United States Army in January of 1945 and serving until November 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). After being discharged from the Army, Arnie worked for the Swift Company in Chicago. He was united in marriage to Leona Lorensberg on July 31, 1950 at the Scared Heart Catholic Church in Eden, SD. They farmed in the Eden area before moving to Sisseton in the fall of 1955. Arnie worked with Hilman Rice for the first few years. He then began his own construction company in 1959, and later his son Wayne joined him and then later Cory his grandson. For over 50 years, Arnie's building trade consisted of building single and multi family units as well as commercial buildings. Arnie insisted on quality workmanship of every detail. In 1980, they bought the Fader Farm which is adjacent to 8th Ave East and started the Deutsch First Subdivision. They later bought the Pettersen Lumber Company but sold it a few years later. In Arnie's earlier years he liked to hunt. His hobby was working. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandsons. Leona passed away on May 12, 2000. Arnie entered the Tekakwitha Living Center in the fall of 2011. Arnie passed away on February 3, 2014 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Arnie is survived by three children, Wayne and wife, Joyce Deutsch of Sisseton, SD, Marilyn and husband, Norrill Moe of Volga, SD, and Donell and wife, Denise Deutsch of Plymouth, MN; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandson's; special friend Mary Pallesen of Sisseton, SD; one aunt Mrs. Regina Lentz of Watertown, SD; two brothers-in-law, Charles and Polly Lorensberg and Gene and Jackie Lorensberg of Windfall, IN, and three sisters-in-law, Marjorie and husband, Marvin Dahl of Walla Walla, WA, Mrs. Arlette Jensen of Roslyn, SD and Mrs. Yvonne Fitzpatrick of Spokane, WA.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leona; two brothers, Norman and Delbert Deutsch, and three sisters, Alvera Bucklin, Bernetta Sutton, and Helen Deutsch.
