Funeral Service for Arlet Marcella Schaunaman, 85 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Jeff Kalb officiating. Organist will be Clarice Arbach and soloist will be Dean Lehrke. Pallbearers will be Calvin and Steve Finnesand, Paul Schaunaman, Jason Pickthorn, Butch Greseth and Kevin Deutsch. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Arlet was born on November 1, 1923 in Sisseton, SD to Iver Amandius and Arlie (Johnson) Finnesand. Arlet grew up and attended country school and graduated from Sisseton High School. Arlet worked at Pearson Drug Store during her high school years and following high school she worked for Landsberger Creamery. Arlet was united in marriage to Donald "Bud" Schaunaman on August 22, 1946 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. She helped her husband on the farm. In 1958 she started working at the Sisseton Community Hospital and then Coteau Des Prairies Hospital where she retired in 1997. Bud passed away on January 4, 1996. Arlet loved to crochet, spending time with her family, and was a volunteer with the senior citizen meals. Arlet was a long time member and very active in the Emanuel Lutheran Church and LWML. Arlet passed away peacefully on February 23, 2009 at Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown, SD after a short illness.
Arlet is survived by two daughters, Marcia and husband, Robert Aiken of Spearfish, SD, Lois and husband, Gary Ermish of Auburn, WA, and one son, Jerry and wife, Kim Schaunaman of Sisseton, SD; two brothers, Howard and wife, Elsie Finnesand of Sisseton, SD, and Iver and wife, Darlene Finnesand of Groton, SD; two sisters, Ruth and husband, Warren Mogenson of Rapid City, SD and Thelma and husband, Sherman Pickthorn of Watertown, SD; eleven grandchildren and step grandchildren, six great grandchildren; three sister-in-laws, Mrs. Agnes Finnesand of Sisseton, SD, Mrs. Bethel Schwagerl of Presho, SD and Mrs. Helen Dehnert of Ipswich, SD; and two brothers-in-laws, Bud Fenske of Rapid City, SD and Kenneth and wife, Darlene Schaunaman of Browns Valley, MN.
Arlet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, Irvin, Marvin, Kenneth, Harvey, Alvin and Leo, and one sister, Bernice.
