Arlene was born April 15, 1937 in Sisseton, SD to her parents Etta (Grant) and Jacob Keoke. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. As a young girl, she spent a lot of time with her grandmother Emma Red Earth who lived by Drywood Lake. Her grandma Emma would come and pick her up in a horse-drawn wagon, and she would go stay up in Drywood for weeks at a time. She attended multiple boarding schools growing up. A specific time she spoke of, was living with her sister in Ft Yates while going to school. She also went to school in Dilworth, MN when she was about 15, attending with her niece and nephew, Roberta and Mandis. They were all around the same age, so they were more like siblings to her. She also spoke of the time attending school in Eagle Butte with her sister, and also in Pipestone, before eventually graduating.
Later in life, Arlene went on to marry Glen Miller where they had 6 children together: Kent, Trent, Brent, Stacey, Charlene, and Karena. Arlene and Glen eventually went their separate ways, but they always had a life-long bond between them that still has never ended to this day. She did eventually re-marry, Roger Eldridge, where they spent years together before his passing in 2004.
Arlene was a devoted employee to her tribe, having 40+ years working for the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate. She was extremely grateful for all her coworkers and friends she made throughout her tenure.
Arlene loved when the lilacs would bloom in the springtime and would say she could smell the rain. She was a passionate woman who cared deeply for others and always supported the people in her life. She enjoyed sight-seeing and travelling, particularly to Paha Sapa. She loved to gaze out the window and admire nature's beauty. She read her Bible daily and was a faithful member of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She loved singing Dakota Hymns and even during times of inclement weather, she would still be determined to attend on Sunday.
Arlene passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She cherished spending time with her family and especially all of her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her children: Kent (Connie) Miller, Stacey (Sharla Max) Miller, Charlene (Jerome Renville Sr.) Miller, and Karena Miller; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great grandsons, nieces & nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents: Etta (Grant) and Jacob Keoke; her siblings: Willis Keoke, William Keoke, Marquette Keoke, Robert Keoke, Levi Keoke, Ephraim Keoke, Stephen Keoke, Myrtle Keoke, Blossom Keoke, & Phyllis Keoke; and her sons: Trent Miller and Brent Miller.
