Arlene was born on January 15, 1930, in Peever, South Dakota, to Lena (Dew) and Winford Schrader. After the early loss of her mother when Arlene was just three years old, she was lovingly raised by her father and stepmother, Francis (Buttke) Schrader, whom Winford married in 1937. Arlene attended school in Peever and graduated with the Class of 1947. She continued her education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, earning her teaching certificate in 1950. A dedicated educator, Alene taught at Peever School from 1950 to 1960 and later served as a substitute teacher in the district, sharing her love of learning with generations of local students. On March 14, 1953, Arlene married the love of her life, Calvin Hanson. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community raising four children: Alan, Lori, James, and Janet in the hills west of Peever. Arlene was a loving wife to Calvin, together they showed their children what commitment, patience and true partnership look like. As a mother, Arlene provided guidance, strength, laughter, and unconditional love. Arlene will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her deep commitment to her family, and her quiet strength. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children: Alan (Patty) Hanson, Lori (Hanson) Jackson, James (Cyndi Strang) Hanson, Janet (Kelly) Raguse; Sister: Janice Stewart; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Anne) Hanson, Leah (Dustin) Fritts, Mason (Mikaela) Lampe, Koby (April) Jackson, Keana Jackson, Kenzie (Ben Witte) Jackson and Kailey (Eric) Pfeffer; and seven great-grandchildren: Beckett Lampe, Taeden, Emersyn, Bowyn Jackson, Wynona Ries, Daniel and Sasha Fritts..
