Funeral Service for Andy K. Hanson, 98 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Family Life Assembly of God church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Vern Donnell officiating. Special music by Richard and June Evenson. Pallbearers will be Zeb Wolfe, Steve Mindt, Kenneth Mindt, Phil Eneboe, and Richard Evenson. Interment will be in the Veteran Section of the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Friday, April 3, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD, and one hour prior to services at the church. Andy K. Hanson was born on September 10, 1910 on a farm near Dry Run to Theodore and Hilda (Swen) Hanson. At the age of four, they moved to their own homestead farm in Montana. In 1925 the family moved back to South Dakota, and Andy was old enough to work as a farm hand. Then came the depression. Andy covered the 48 states on trains. Riding the rods, along with countless thousand, he was a hobo. He continued pan handling and transient farm work until he was able to get into CCC camp. There he became adept at mechanical work. From there he became employed in Roy Tallakson's Garage in Sisseton. Andy joined the Army Air Force in July 1942 and served until September 1945. He served his country valiantly in war time flights over China, Burma and India. He received the European-African–Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon; Four Over Seas Bars; Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with One Bronze Battle Star, and One Service Strip. Andy was united in marriage to Emma Mindt on March 22, 1945 in Vancouver, WA. For 24 of those years he was a mechanic at the Eight Street Garage in Oregon City, OR. Emma passed away March 10, 1985. Andy was united in marriage to Clara Bubak on September 10, 1992 in Reno, Nevada. In 1993 they moved to Sisseton where they made their home. Clara passed away on January 24, 2007. Andy was a member of Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50. Andy entered the Tekakwitha Living Center in March 2003. Andy passed away on March 31, 2009 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Andy is survived by three step children, Orville and wife, Shirley Bubak of Sisseton, SD, Beverly and husband, Ralph Brafford-Perrella of Atlanta, GA; Almon and Hattie Mindt of Bend, OR; and one step daughter-in-law Betty Mindt, and numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife's, Emma and Clara, two sisters and two brothers.
