Funeral Service for Andrew " Andy" Eide, 85 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and soloist will be Pat Schubert. Pallbearers will be Christie Smith, Michaela Just, Adam Jensen, Scott Jensen, Marlow Aadland and Steven Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arden Moen, Maynard Moen, Eddie Moen, Ray Moen, Larry Moen, Dale Eide, Merlyn (Windy) Landmark, Ted Yochim, Paul Stapleton, Orville Bubak and all of the Residents and Staff at Tekakwitha Living Center. Interment will be in the One Road Bethel Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P. M. Prayer Service will be at 7:00 P.M. Andrew Oliver Eide was born on May 27, 1929 in One Road Township, Roberts County, South Dakota to Olai and Louise (Tostenson) Eide. He attended school in One Road Township and San Diego, CA where the family lived from 1944 to 1946. Andy was employed at Stavig Bros., as a meat cutter, starting with the firm in 1947 and retiring in 1993. Andy served in the United States Army from September 1, 1950 to May 18, 1952; he also served in the Army National Guard from November 13, 1947 until September 17, 1968 he was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 196 Infantry which was activated in September 1950 to Ft. Carson, CO. The unit then went to Camp Richardson in Anchorage, AK. He was Battery Commander of the unit from September 1960 to September 1966. He retired at the rank of Captain. Andy was united in marriage to Marjorie Rice on August 6, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. Andy was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #50 for over 60 years. Andy had a love for fishing on South Buffalo Lake. His fishing spot is now referred to as "Eide Point" by some of his fellow fishermen. He also enjoyed hunting pheasants and ducks with his hunting buddies. Andy had a knack for making a good tasting lefse. He sold it at the meat counter at Stavigs Dept. Store. It always sold out quickly! He also was quite a handyman and could fix anything. Andy took pride in remodeling his home and building his garage. He enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work and trimming trees. Andy loved his family very much. He especially enjoyed playing ball, card games and just hanging out with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Andy passed away at the Tekakwitha Living Center on December 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Andy is survived by his wife, Marjorie Eide of Sisseton, SD; one son Steven Eide of Sisseton, SD; three daughters, Andrea Eide of West Fargo, ND; Joan and husband Tom Brewster of Lake City, SD; and Mary and husband, Dennis Jensen of Sisseton, SD; one brother, Orley Eide of Escondido, CA; seven grandchildren, Christie and husband Steven Smith of Horace, ND; Michaela (Chip VanderPol) Just of Platte, SD; Adam Jensen of Minneapolis, MN; Scott Jensen of Sisseton, SD; Eric Brewster of Milbank, SD; Rachel and husband Chad Hanisch of Garretson, SD; Joe and wife Missy Brewster of Sioux Falls, SD and eleven great grandchildren, Kaitlin Torgerson-Wickre of St. Michael, MN; Alyssa, Nicholas and Sydney Smith all of Horace, ND; Paitynn and Sophie VanderPol of Platte, SD; Adair, Harper, and Michael Hanisch of Garretson, SD; Alex and Macy Brewster of Sioux Falls, SD.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Michael Torgerson; two sisters, Berthie Chell and Lily Lindvedt; four brothers, Roy, Otto and Kenneth Eide and Midel Moen.
