Funeral Service for Andrew D. Hayes, "Aḣbana Hanpa Apena Skaté" Quiet Moccasin Player, 71 of Hankinson, ND will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Pastor Milton Owen, John Cloud III Senior Cathacist, LaVerne Blackthunder and Russell Smith.   Pallbearers will be Narcisse Lufkins, Cam Brown, Algin Blackthunder, Craig Blackthunder, Corwin Blue Dog, Charlie Vermillion, Perry Lufkins and Kory Bertsch. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Past and Present Moccasin Player, Stanley Lufkins, Craig Spider, Arnold Goodbird, Raymond Shepherd Jr., Felix Renville Jr., Jerome Renville and Brian DeCteau. Drum Group will be Dakota Nation. Interment will be in the Sisseton Wahpeton Traditional Burial Grounds. Wake Services will be held at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 26, 2017 with an all night wake on Monday, November 27, 2017. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Andrew journeyed into the Spirit World on November 22, 2017 at his home in Hankinson, ND. Andrew was born on March 28, 1946 in Sisseton, SD to Alfred D. Hayes and Annie Johnson. Andrew spent his younger years in the Enemy Swim area where his family was from. He attended the Enemy Swim Day School and Wahpeton Boarding School. After his schooling he worked for local farmers. He was also employed at Dakota Sioux Casino as a dishwasher and Dakota Magic Casino as a Porter.

He enjoyed going to pow-wows and playing moccasin. He went many places to play moccasin. His lifelong companion Faith traveled with him. They were always together no matter where you seen them. You very seldom seen one without the other. He was a quiet humble man. People who knew him enjoyed his presence. He was a well respected man. He carried himself in a humble way. He enjoyed being around family at Holidays and special events.

He will be missed by family and all who knew him. He left everyone with something that they will remember him by. Andrew and his lifelong companion Faith are walking together going home to be with family.

We love you – brother, father, uncle, grandpa. You are home now.

Andrew is survived by one son, Drago Lufkins of Sisseton, SD; one sister, Caroline Blackthunder of Waubay, SD; two brothers, Floyd Hayes and Joseph Hayes of Agency Village, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Archie, Ernest and Albert; one sister, Florestine and his significant other Faith Lufkins.
