Funeral Service for Ambrose Sylvan St. John, 62 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Jerry Ranek and Spiritual Leader Danny Seaboy. Drum Group will be Ridge Runners. Pallbearers are Wade DuMarce, Conrad DuMarce, Todd St. John, Travis St. John, Shawn Scott, and Terrance St. John. Honorary Pallbearers are Alex Heminger, Francis " Tato" Heminger, Ted St. John, Rodney St. John, Gordon Perry St. John, Stanley Paul, David Paul, Russel Keeble, Phillip St. John, Robert "Bob" St. John, "Tekakwitha Nursing Home Staff and Sioux Falls Social Services. Wake Service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 7:30 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel and Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. an all night Wake at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Catholic Church Cemetery, Veblen, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Ambrose was born on October 12, 1953 in Sisseton, SD to Joseph Isaac and Helena R. St. John. He attended school at Tekakwitha, Wahpeton and Flandreau Boarding School. Following his education Ambrose traveled the United States working as a Laborer. Ambrose was a traditional dancer. Ambrose was injured in an accident in Oregon and was forced to retire. He lived in Sioux Falls, SD for twenty six years before moving back to Sisseton, SD. He entered the Tekakwitha Living Center in January 2014. Ambrose passed away on May 20, 2016 at the Tekakwitha Living Center. His hobbies included watching movies, classic TV, reading, lifting weights, and playing bingo.
Ambrose is survived by two sisters, Barbara St. John Heminger of Sisseton, SD and Ramona St. John Isaac of Sisseton, SD; nieces and nephews, Tammie Sue DuMarce, Debra Lynn DuMarce, Helena Gail LaBatte, Cynthia Anne DuMarce, Brenda Renee DuMarce, Wade Garrett DuMarce, Maxine Stacy Marie DuMarce, Terrance Todd St. John, Jewel Vanetta Lynn DeMarrias, Latisha Marie Stavick, Travis Julian St. John and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ambrose was preceded in death by his mother, Helena R. St. John and his father, Joseph Isaac; his grandparents, Alex and Alice (Iron) St. John, and his uncle Irvin A. St. John.
