Obituary

Funeral Service for Ambrose Decoteau Jr. "Wagwash", Fast Learner, 71, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek officiating. Pallbearers will be T.J. Backman, Gummer Decoteau, Brent Starr, John Budack, Brandon Adams, Bucky Lockwood, Duck Charbonneau, Darrell Decoteau Jr., Andres Huerta, Brian Decoteau, Jace Starr and Kenyon Budack Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dennis Baker, Kory Budack, Kerry Cameron, Danny Seaboy, Kristie Richards, Dr. Williams, Russell Smith, Charles Backman, Robert Starr, Darrell Decoteau, Candy Anderson, Robert Decoteau, Ardie Baker, Willie Seaboy, Keith Decoteau, and All Ambrose's Family and Friends. Drum group will be Decoteau Family. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be Wake Services at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall on Saturday, August 10, 2019 with an all night Wake on August 11, 2019 both starting at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ambrose was born November 11 th , 1947 in Dunseith, ND to Ambrose Decoteau Sr. and Blanche Baker. He attended school at Dunseith Day School and Wahpeton Indian School. He worked for Peter Guite doing masonry work up until he had an accident by falling 70 ft after scaffolding broke. He suffered from two broken arms, two broken legs, a broken jaw, and broke his back. It took him a year to recover from this accident. But that didn't stop him. In 1976 he worked for Conger Construction. In the early 90's he moved to Sisseton, SD. He met the love of his life Kellen Budack in 1992. They then married July 1 st , 1994. In that union he took her four kids Charles Backman (Hendrix), Kayleen Backman (JurNee, Azure, Andres, Ernan, and Zepplin), Eileen Backman (Tim, Paige, Osiris, and Lyric), and TJ (Kristen) Backman as his own. He loved to be outdoors, he always had a fishing pole in his hand. He loved to watch his boxing, fishing, and swamp people, spending time with his grandkids and great grand children and he call his brothers and sisters everyday. He enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking coffee with his wife and fur baby "Tink". Ambrose Decoteau Jr. journeyed to the spirit world August 7 th , 2019 at Coteau Des Prairies Hospital at the Age of 71.

He is survived by his wife Kellen Decoteau; four children Charles Backman, Kayleen Huerta, Eileen Backman, and TJ (Kristen) Backman; 10 Grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters. Five brothers Darrell (Peggy) Decoteau Sr. of Flandreau, SD, Pat Decoteau, and Dan Decoteau of Dunseith, ND, Dennis (Diane) Baker of Belcourt, ND and John Poitra of Belcourt, ND; two sisters Mary Lockwood and Susie Decoteau of Dunseith, ND; Aunties, Beatrice Decoteau of Belcourt, ND, Auntie June St. Claire of Belcourt, ND Uncle Glenn Baker of Albuquerque, WA; sister-in-law, Chyrel Decoteau of Sisseton, SD; special nephews, Darrell "Bucky" Lockwood, Leslie "Gummer" Decoteau and Donovan "Duck" Charbonneau, many nieces and nephews.

Ambrose was preceded in death by his father Ambrose Decoteau Sr. and mother Blanche Baker-Decoteau; two Brothers Marvin "Dink" Decoteau and Alfred Decoteau; two Sisters Elizabeth Decoteau and JoAnne Decoteau; baby girl Decoteau.
