Funeral Service for Alma Catherine (Wanna) Renville, Akicita Un Inajikte Win, "Stands with the Warrior Woman", 100, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Jerry Ranek and Pastor Milton Owen officiating. Pallbearers are Kenneth Kirk, Lawson Renville, Clifford DuMarce Jr., Merlin Jay Renville, James Rondell, Jordan Rondell, Nick Rondell and Perry Lufkins. Honorary Pallbearers are Ione Eagle, Bobbi Jean DuMarce, Milton and Barbara Owen, Evangeline Brant, Michelle Walking Bull, Martha Mandan, Wanda LaBatte, Charlene Wanna, Dianne DeSrosiers, Marcella Haug, Faith Lufkins, Crystal Harwood and Winfield Thompson Family.  Wake services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 and all night wake service Sunday, February 12, 2017 starting at 7:00 P.M. both nights at St. Kateri's Catholic Hall.  Interment will be at the St. Matthews Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Alma lived a long, full life and witnessed many changes over her lifetime; she lived in a time when Dakota people were forced to attend boarding schools and were punished for speaking the Dakota language and was a young girl when Native Americans became "legal" citizens of the United States. She lived to see the revival of our culture. She was known by many names: kunsi, grandma elmo, tunwin, auntie alma, ina, momma, mom, and granny. She was a generous, patient and caring woman and welcomed many people into her home; she always made sure everyone had something to eat. Her indian name Akicita un inajin kte win, Stands with the Warriors Woman, is fitting. Throughout her lifetime she supported the warriors in our family and the community. Granny was always there for her family and had wise words when the children were going through difficult times. Just going to her house made you feel better.

We are sad and heartbroken that she had to leave, but we are thankful that she can finally rest.
Granny is survived by her seven children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, her two sisters Mary Ann and Dorothy, and many nieces and nephews.
