Aiyana Catherine-Germaine Englund, of Sisseton, South Dakota, passed away in her home on November 3, 2015. She was 15 years old.
Aiyana was born in Brainerd, Minnesota, on September 18, 2000 to Lillian "Cori" Owen and Neil Englund. At the time of her passing, she was a freshman at Sisseton High School in Sisseton, SD. Our precious angel loved to draw, write, tell jokes, make people laugh and smile, and hang out with her siblings, friends and cousins. She loved the Harry Potter movies, music, the rain, and dyeing her hair different colors. She was beautiful and smart and fun and creative. Aiyana was Two-Spirited and gender fluid. She loved being Aiyana, but she also went by her male identity, Adrian. She embraced both her female and male spirits. Aiyana was passionate about spreading her messages of equality, acceptance, and understanding. She wanted people to know that bullying hurts. Those words hurt. Aiyana/Adrian wanted us all to treat
each other with kindness and love. Her family asks that you please take her message along with you on your life's journey. Please reach out to others who may be struggling in any way.
