Funeral Service for Doris Barker-Robertson “KDD”, 87 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 10:00 AM. at St. Catherine’s Hall, Sisseton, SD with Fillmore Simon CLP, Rev. John Robertson, and Senior Catechist John Cloud IIl officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl and special music by Butch Felix. Pallbearers will be Louis Williams, Byron Renville, Larry Barker, Tim Parker, Ronald Chaske Hill, and Donald Robertson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Doris’s Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Irene Kampeska, Lavelva Amos-Williams, Phyllis Roberts, Lisa Redwing, June Renville, and Angie Wanna. Interment will be in St. Luke’s Episcopal Cemetery, Veblen, SD. There will be a wake service on Tuesday, January 10, 2009 and Wednesday, January 11, 2009 at 7:00 PM at St. Catherine’s Hall, Sisseton, SD.
Doris Delight Barker was born on January 19, 1922 at Goodwill Township, SD to Hazen and Keziah (Flute) Barker. She grew up and attended Pipestone Boarding School. Following her education, she started working for Bob Vorhies and she also worked at Indian Health Services on the floor and then she worked in the kitchen as a cook retiring in 1982. She also worked several years at Dakota Pride as a cook. Doris was united in marriage to Paul Robertson on April 15, 1970 at Wheaton, MN. She liked sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, playing scrabble, sewing, crossword puzzles, reading and playing flinch and yahtzee, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She spoke Dacotah fluently and worked at Sisseton Wahpeton Community College interpreting old letters from Dacotah to English.
Doris passed away on February 7, 2009 at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center, Sisseton, SD.
Doris is survived by five children, Donald (Reva) Barker of White River, AZ, Tony Barker of Sisseton, SD, Gordie (Pam) Robertson of Sisseton, SD, Glen Robertson of Sisseton, SD, and Paula Robertson-Renville and Byron Renville of Sisseton, SD; one sister, Naomi Barker-Parker of Agency Village, SD, and one brother, Edward R. (Yvonne) Williams Jr. of Agency Village, SD; eighteen grandchildren, Twenty Great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild,
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, two sons Edwin James and Lee Gordon, two infant daughters, two brothers, John and Ed Barker, three sisters, Martha Barker-Hill, Ruth Barker Owen and Rosalie Barker Owen.
