Died: April 24, 2012

Funeral Mass for Kathryn M. Schiltz, 90, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD at 10:30 AM with Rev. Fr. Norm Volk, OMI Celebrant and organist will be Colette Hull and song leader Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Will Wright, Jeff Krieger, Corey Likness, Todd Naab, John Rasmussen, Terry Jaspers and Rodney Veflin. Interment will be at the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. and family will be present from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sisseton Performing Art Center and the Watertown Animal Shelter. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn Margaret Molamphy was born at her paternal grandmother’s house in Hastings, Minnesota, a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Laubenthal) Molamphy, on August 31, 1921. She graduated from high school at St. Cecelia’s Academy at Algona, Iowa in 1940. After graduation, Kathryn did housework, typing and child care. On June 3, 1941, she married Marlin Schiltz of Bancroft, Iowa and they lived there until Marlin went to the Army, and at that time Kathryn moved back to Algona, Iowa. Upon Marlin’s return from World War II, they moved back to Bancroft. Here they started and operated the Schiltz Goose Farm and Hatchery, and later with Richard and Kenny, they operated a small processing plant at Swea City, Iowa; a nearby town. The whole family worked in the Hatchery and on the farm. Kathryn worked in all of the phases of Hatchery work and was an excellent sexor of the goslings; as well as office work. Then, in the early 1980’s they purchased the John Landsberger Processing Plant, Sisseton, SD and the family involved in the Hatchery and Processing Plant moved to Sisseton. Jeff and Linda Krieger also moved from Iowa with them, and they and their family live at the Goose Farm where Jeff is the manager. After graduating from Iowa State University, Jim joined them full-time. Kathryn’s life was busy. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for three years in Iowa, was also Circle Leader and Co-Leader at St. John’s Catholic Church; and worked with the Band Mothers and Church groups and was President of the Band Mother’s for one year. At St. Peter’s Catholic Church she was an Altar Society member, and took Communion to the shut-ins for four years. She worked with the Red Cross and Grey Ladies at Tekawitha Nursing Center and was President of the Grey Ladies for three years. Kathryn did a lot of volunteer work at Tek Treasures and helped with the weekly singing at the nursing home. She participated with the Tekakwitha Task Force for one year. She also worked on the Community Fund Drive for three years and was an Election Poll watcher and checker. Kathryn liked all kinds of music, and animals, especially cats, as well as dogs, squirrels and birds. She also enjoyed decorating eggs, playing cards, Scrabble, cross words and jig saw puzzles and square dancing. Kathryn passed away on April 24, 2012 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Kathryn and Marlin had seven children. Kathryn is survived by Karen Senior of Freeport, Illinois; Richard and Marcia Schiltz of Sisseton, SD; Linda and Dean Frideres of LuVerne, Iowa; Ruth and James Taylor, Indianola, Iowa; Susan Schiltz-Day and husband, Tim Day, Urbandale, Iowa; Jim Schiltz and significant other, Julie of Sisseton, SD; and daughter in-law Mary (MJ) Schiltz of Sioux Falls, SD; plus eighteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding Kathryn in death were: her parents, her husband Marlin (1998), son Kenny (2011), three sisters (Mary Struthers, Mildred Koepke and Helen Carlson); three brothers-in-law, and one brother, Thomas Molamphy.
