Funeral Service for Leon Curtis Roberts, “Mapeya mani” (walks inside the clouds), 59, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Enemy Swim, SD with the Rev. Les Campbell and Rev. Charles Chan officiating. Pianist will be Kay Bursheim. Drum group will be the Enemy Swim Singers. Pallbearers will be Sawyer Waltner, Marcell Hopkins, Sonny Roberts, Donald Bury Jr., Delbert Hopkins Jr. and Loris Welch. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Gill, Dennis Gill, Sherman Hopkins, Jimmy Hopkins, Merle Redbear, Elvis Ortley, Kevin Roberts, Kenny Seaboy, Beaman Seaboy, Michelle Farmer, Deb Chanku, Nathan Beck, Jeremy and Sidney Harmonson, and Burial will be in the St. James’ Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, SD. There will be a Wake Services on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 7:00 PM and Friday, January 6, 2012 an all night wake starting at 7:00 PM. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Leon C. Roberts was born April 30, 1952 in Sisseton, SD, the son of Sidney and Josephine (Seaboy) Roberts. Leon attended Enemy Swim Day School and Wilmot Public Schools. Leon enjoyed playing checkers, bingo, listening to Pow Wow Music, and the “oldies”, but goodies, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Credence, Johnny Cash and numerous other artists. Leon married Deb in 1993 in Robbinsdale, MN. They both lived in the Robbinsdale Rehabilitation Center. Leon moved home to be among family. Leon is survived by two sisters, Janice Roberts and David Bird of Sisseton, SD, Carol McClain and Jeff Gerritson of Sheldon, IA; two brothers Lew and Betty Harmonson of Africa, and Darrell and Cynthia Roberts of Vermillion, SD; two adopted brothers, Craig and Staci Johnston of Oklahoma, and Dennis and Faye Helmers of Rushmore, MN; one aunt Evangeline Seaboy Brant of Agency Village, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Glendoris Bury; two brothers, Lyle Keeble and Matthew Gill III; and one great niece Dakota Sioux West; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
